Authority to grant licenses for 10 Electronic media

Addis Ababa, August 28, 2020 (FBC) – Broadcast Authority announced readiness to grant licenses to 10 electronic media on the upcoming New Ethiopian Year.

Director of the Authority, Getachew Dinku stated that out of the electronic media to receive the license, three are FM Radio stations that have won the bidding so far.

Applicants who desire to have satellite service licenses will be accommodated as soon as they fulfill the necessary requirements, the Director affirmed.

The Authority grants licenses accommodating demands with that of the air wave available for the service, the director said.

Activities are underway to grant more licenses to the print media owners in a bid to expand access promote freedom of press in the nation, he stated.

It needs a great deal of efforts and sense of accountability to address challenges related to illicit activities in the media realm and transforms the sector to a better position, Getachew stressed.

The Authority has so far granted licenses to three FM Radio Stations this budget year.
