China awards full scholarship to Ethiopian students

Addis Ababa, August 25, 2023 (FBC) – The government of People’s Republic of China has awarded free scholarships to 26 Ethiopia students, the Chinese Embassy in Addis Ababa said in a statement sent to Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

In his remarks during the farewell reception organized by the Embassy, Mr. Zhao Zhiyuan, Ambassador of China to Ethiopia, congratulated the 2023/2024 Ethiopian Chinese Government scholarship students and extended sincere congratulations to Ethiopia on being invited to join the BRICS cooperation mechanism.

Ambassador Zhao said, China and Ethiopia have developed a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. “Education cooperation is one of the most important cooperation fields. It is not only an important fundamental cooperation, but also an important part of strategic cooperation between our two countries, playing an important role in bilateral cooperation. A thrilling education makes a thrilling country. Owing to the combined efforts and the great contribution of generation after generation of Chinese and Ethiopian people, the relationship between our two countries has been promoted to the current high level of long term traditional friendship.”

The Embassy’s statement mentioned that he strongly believes this successful scholarship program is a vivid example of the implementation of Global Development Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping.

Expressing his sincere gratitude to Chinese Government for awarding the Ethiopian students with full scholarship, Idossa Terfassa, Head of the Scholarship and Internationalization of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education hopes that more Ethiopian students will have opportunities to be awarded the scholarship and more education cooperation programs will be implemented to lay a solid foundation of manpower resources for the promotion of bilateral relationship to a higher and more mature level.

The representatives of 2023/2024 scholarship students and the former scholarship students also expressed their sincere gratitude to Chinese Government, adding that China is a great country in their heart and studying in China is their dream.
