China opposes external interference in Ethiopia in guise of human rights, humanitarianism

Addis Ababa, August 27, 2021 (FBC) – Addressing the UN Security Council meeting on situation in Tigray, China rejected any external attempt to undermine sovereignty of Ethiopia in guise of humanitarian support.

China believes that all parties could resolve the situation through political dialogue, Chinese representative underlined.

China welcomes recent efforts of the government of Ethiopia to alleviate the situation in Tigray and neighboring and areas address the humanitarian situation in the Northern parts of the country. Humanitarian need in Afar and Amhara regions is growing, he said, calling the international community to step up humanitarian assistance.

China has provided emergency food aid the people in need in Tigray, he said.

Addressing the current circumstances in Ethiopia through dialogue is vital not only for the country but also the entire region of the horn and Africa at large.

Should uphold the guiding principles of the UN for humanitarian assistance and respect the sovereignty of Ethiopia.

China supports Ethiopia’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and unity, and will continue supporting Ethiopians in achieving national peace, stability, development and prospeirity.

China opposes interference by external forces in Ethiopia’s internal affairs in a name of human rights and humanitarianism, the envoy underlined.

We support the AU and regional countries to resolve African issues in the African way and welcome the appointment of the former Nigerian President Olisegun Obasanjo as high representative for African affairs.
