China says ready to work with Ethiopia in maintaining peace in Horn of Africa

Addis Ababa, November 16, 2023 (FBC) – Speaker of the House of Federation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Agegnehu Teshager held discussion with a Chinese delegation led by Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, Losang Gyaltsen.

In his remarks at the meeting, the Upper House Speaker, Agegnehu Teshager, stated that China and Ethiopia have been enjoying a long and fruitful bilateral cooperation since they established their diplomatic relationship in 1970.

China is ready to work with Ethiopia to further strengthen cooperation on bilateral, international and regional issues, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, Losang Gyaltsen said.

The bilateral ties between the two countries has transformed into a strategic partnership, he said.

China has been supporting in areas of school feeding, river-side development, and free scholarship apart from participation of Chinese companies in mega projects and huge investment sectors in Ethiopia, according to the Speaker. In this regard, the Speaker added that Ethiopia has drawn productive lessons from Ethiopia, and implementing them in propelling its development.

Chinese companies’ presence and participation in Ethiopia is testimony how the nation has become a chosen investment destination, Agegnehu said.

Head of the Chinese delegation, Losang Gyaltsen, for his part, said the bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and China is flourishing in the areas of trade, investment, culture, politics and diplomacy.

Losang Gyaltsen reaffirmed China’s commitment and readiness to support Ethiopia’s initiatives in fighting terrorism, and maintaining peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

The Chinese delegation is expected to have meetings with high government officials of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in the coming days.
