Chinese companies invited to invest in Southwest Ethiopia region

Addis Ababa, February 9, 2023 (FBC) – The Chief Administrator of Southwest Ethiopia Region, Negash Wagesho, called on Chinese companies to invest in the region.

Negash Wagesho received Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhiyuan, at his office and held discussion.

The chief administrator explained that the region will provide the necessary support if Chinese investors are engaged in the agricultural processing industry.

He pointed out that the region is rich in gold, coal and iron ore.

During the discussion, it was stated that the Southwest Ethiopia region wants to establish strong relations with China’s sister provinces.

A request has been made to facilitate the exchange of experience as well as short and long term capacity building trainings through the embassy.

Furthermore, it is stated that the region is widely known for bamboo production and conditions are favorable for investors who want to engage in the sector.

For his part, Ambassador Zhao Zhiyuan pointed out that China is cooperating with Ethiopia in various projects, according to the region’s government communication service.

He mentioned that he understood that the Southwest Ethiopia region has resources of great economic importance, confirming that the embassy will promote this opportunity in China and continue to strengthen the line of communication.
