Cities Alliance to implement refugees-centered inclusive urban development project in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, March 23, 2021 (FBC) – Cities Alliance has announced Comprehensive Refugees Response Framework (CRRF) based Urban Development and Mobility Program in Ethiopia to address the dual challenges of displaced people being hosted in urban areas and wide urbanization.

The Cities Alliance has started regional network and dialogue to address on the project of inclusive urban development and mobility in a bid to help countries in the Horn of Africa to address the dual challenges of the rising number of displaced people being hosted in urban areas and wider urbanization.

It is divided into three components. The first one will focus on regional dialogue and will foster peer networks and knowledge exchange on the challenges and opportunities resulting in urban displacement in the context of urbanization. The second and third are two respective pilot actions that will provide direct support to urban areas, with severely stressed or pre-existing low coverage of basic services and a high concentration of refugees.

The regional network and dialogue component, led by Cities Alliance, will target Jigjiga and Asosa towns in Ethiopia.

The Cities Alliance seeks to improve the lives of 60 million urban poor across 200 cities in 20 countries by 2030.
