Commission announces all corridors leading to Tigray region are open for humanitarian aid

Addis Ababa, November 11, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) has announced that all corridors leading to Tigray region have been opened for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The National Disaster Risk Management Commission Commissioner, Sheferaw Tekle-Mariam, in his briefing to various international humanitarian aid organizations regarding the current situation in Northern Ethiopia, said that all corridors leading to the Tigray region are open for humanitarian aid provision.

Hence, humanitarian aid institutions can provide unfettered humanitarian aid on air freight and land transportation, he stated.

Following the peace agreement between the Ethiopian Government and the TPLF, both land and air transport have been opened for institutions providing humanitarian aid to northern Ethiopia, the Commissioner communicated.

Accordingly, routes from Afar region Ab’ala-Mekele, Humera-Sheraro-Shire-Axum-Adwa, Gondar-Adi Arqay-Mai Tsebri-Shire, and Woldia-Alamata are all open for humanitarian aid.

In the Afar region, it provided a temporary service from Ab’ala-Mekele. Meanwhile, the Commissioner indicated that three of the 16 heavy trucks that entered through the Humera-Sheraro-Shire-Axum-Adwa corridor were carrying medical supplies.
