Construction of the 3.6bln birr Wolmel Irrigation Canal to be completed this FY

Addis Ababa, September 25, 2023 (FBC) – The construction of Wolmel Irrigation Canal which is being carried out at an outlay of 3.6 billion birr will be completed this Ethiopian Fiscal Year, the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands announced.

The Ministry indicated that, up on its completion, the canal will have a capacity of irrigating more than 11,000 ha of land benefiting over 22,000 farmers.

According to the Ministry, the canal will also enable farmers of the area to undertake irrigation works three times a year.

The Ministry stated that the project will be fully completed at the end of the current Ethiopian 2016 fiscal year.
