Council urges parties to nurture peaceful political culture for better Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, August 22, 2020 (FBC) – Joint Council of Political Parties today stressed need for peaceful political struggle and national consensus to realize better future of Ethiopia.

The Council called up on parties to shun political game that will have tendencies to cause loss of lives and properties at the expense of the people.

The council is discussing prospects for building of national consensus.

Addressing party representatives gathered at Meeting Hall of Economic Commission For Africa, Chairperson of the Council, Musa Adem called on government, political parties and the public at large to contribute share in building national consensus.

He urged political parties to nurture mutual approach and peaceful political struggle so as to address their common challenges.

Council called the government to ensure rule of law, protect human rights and promote freedom of expressing and peaceful political opposition.

The Chairperson also called up on the general public not to be exposed to political conspiracies being orchestrated by politicians to negatively affect the welfare of the nation.

He further urged the general public to refrain from harmful actions in guise of political struggle.

Participants discussed points tabled by Chairperson of Oromo Federalist Congress, Professor Merara Gudina focused on Ethiopia’s political path from nation building to formation of political systems which the participants are discussing.
