Desert locust causing damage to crops, grazing lands in Somali
Addis Ababa, January 15, 2021 (FBC) – The Agriculture and Natural Resources Bureau of the Somali region announced that the desert locust infestation has caused destruction to crops of farmers and grazing lands in the region.
The desert locust swarm descended on 10 zones of the region has wrecked devastation on crops and grazing lands.
According to the Deputy Head of the Somali region Agriculture and Natural Resources Bureau of the Somali Abdullahi Yusuf Adem, the desert locust infestation is spreading quickly in to other zones in border areas.
Except Siti Zone, all other zonal areas of the region are being affected by the locust swarms, the deputy head said.
Preventive activities are well underway in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture to control the infestation, he added.
