DPM & FM Demeke confers with Deputy FMs Kazakhstan, Serbia.

Addis Ababa, March 3, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, discussed with the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and Serbia.

DPM & FM Demeke is participating in The Summit-Level Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Contact Group in response to COVID19 on post-pandemic global recovery started today in Baku, Azerbaijan.

On the margins of NAM summit, Demeke discussed with officials of various countries to strengthen Ethiopia’s bilateral cooperation with those countries.

Their discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and mutual interests. Demeke gave a brief overview of the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement and noted the need to expand relationships in trade and investment.

He underscored that the trade and business cooperation between the two countries should be increased to the desired level.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kanat Tumysh, appreciated the political and economic progress of the Ethiopian government.

He expressed Kazakhstan’s interest in working on tourism, education and capacity building with Ethiopia. He called for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Kazakh Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs invited investors engaged in various businesses in Ethiopia to visit Kazakhstan and strengthen their ties.

He also affirmed that Kazakhstan will provide free scholarships for Ethiopian students.

Moreover, Demeke also held discussion with Ivica Dačić, First Deputy and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, on the issues to further enhance the historical relationship between the two countries.

Likewise, the Serbian First Deputy FM noted the need to scale up the historical relationship between Ethiopia and Serbia with new engagements.

Kazakhstan and Serbia are members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Contact Group. ENA’s report recalls that both countries have been cooperating with Ethiopia in multilateral diplomacy on international stages.
