DPM & FM Demeke urges investment in youth for a better Africa

Addis Ababa, November 25, 2022 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Ethiopia Demeke Mekonnen urged African leaders to invest in youth so as to brighten the future of Africa and create a better continent.

The Deputy Prime Minister made a speech at the Africa Electronic Marketing Forum held on the sidelines of the African Union Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification in Niamey, Niger. He pointed out that youth job creation is an area of priority for the continent.

Demeke mentioned that e-commerce and other similar initiatives should be supported by the AU member countries, adding that the online transaction must be considered as a best practice.

Africa must get its fair share in the global digital economy. Otherwise the people of Africa will not be able to attain political and economic freedom.

He also mentioned that similar digital experiences are being implemented to solve African problems through African solutions and promote and protect African art.

According Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) 2021 report, the market size value of the global e-commerce was 26.3 trillion dollars, of which Africa’s share is only one percent.
