“Early Warning for All” initiative for 4 East African countries launched in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 30, 2023 (FBC) – Early Warning for All Initiative (EW4A), focused on disaster risk, early warning and response in four East African countries, including Ethiopia, was unveiled today at the Addis Ababa Science Museum.

Chief Commissioner of Ethiopia’s Disaster Risk Management Commission, Ambassador Shiferaw Teklemariam, representatives of the four East African countries and stakeholders were present at the launching event.

Addressing the launching workshop, Ambassador Shiferaw urged all stakeholders to work in coordination to make early warning and response activities effective in disaster risk reduction.

It is noted that the Commission’s early warning and early action system roadmap document based on the impact of multi-disasters was presented as a benchmark.

The National Disaster Risk Management Commission of Ethiopia indicated that the “Early Warning for All” movement will focus on disaster risk, early warning and response activities in the respective countries.

It is learned that the initiative aims to break barriers among sectors and organizations and establish a model of cooperation.
