EDRMC, partners agree to provide swift humanitarian response

Addis Ababa, December 21, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC) and its partners agreed to strengthen their cooperation and collaboration to fill the humanitarian aid gap in areas affected by drought and floods in Ethiopia.

Recently the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (UN CERF) allocated 8 million US dollars to those affected by the floods in Ethiopia, 5 million USD to those affected by the epidemic and 10 million USD to support those affected by the drought in the northern part of the country.

During a discussion involving EDRMC and its humanitarian partners on Wednesday, WFP and JEOP-CRS pledged to continue to strengthen their efforts in swiftly delivering humanitarian aid in Tigray, Afar, and Amhara regions.

The discussion also deliberated on the use of digital ID to identify beneficiaries of humanitarian aid in the delivery process. Stakeholders were also urged to be involved in the implementation of the 4-month Emergency Response Plan, it is stated.

Humanitarian aid providers agreed during the consultation to implement a standardized procedure to identify beneficiaries at the family level. The government and its partners also agreed to provide a enhanced and swift humanitarian response.

The discussion was chaired by Chief Commissioner of Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission, Ambassador Shiferaw Teklemariam and United Nations UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator to Ethiopia, Ramiz Alakbarov.
