Egypt in contact with Israel, Hamas to prevent truce violations – Reports

CAIRO, November 24 (Sputnik) – Egypt is in contact with Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas to prevent violations of the truce that went into effect on Friday morning, Egyptian broadcaster Al Qahera News reported, citing sources.

The four-day ceasefire between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas began on Friday morning at 7 a.m. local time (05:00 GMT). So far, no violations have been reported by either side.

“Egypt is in contact with Israel and Hamas to consolidate the ceasefire agreement and prevent violations,” the broadcaster quoted the sources as saying.

Earlier in the day, cargo trucks with humanitarian aid, the first since the truce began, arrived in the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing, the broadcaster reported, adding that a total of 200 cargo trucks were expected to enter the enclave on Friday.

On Wednesday, Israel and Hamas confirmed that they had agreed to a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with the cessation of all hostilities and the release of 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners.

On Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was expected to be short-lived and would be followed by around two more months of fighting.
