Ethiopia Community School building design handover ceremony held in Djibouti

 Addis Ababa, February 24, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Community School building design delivery session has been held in Djibouti today.

Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the African Union and UNECA, Abdi Shehida, Prefet of Nagad Region of the Republic of Djibouti, Presidents of Dire Dawa and Djibouti Universities, senior Djibouti officials, Ethiopian Embassy diplomats and staffs, members of the Construction Resources Coordinating Committee, Ethiopians residing in the country, and invited guests were present.

The Ethiopian Ambassador to the Republic of Djibouti, Berhanu Tsegaye, stated in his opening remarks that the Ethiopian Community School, which has long been a concern of Ethiopian parents in Djibouti, has reached a significant milestone with the delivery of the building design. He, then, expressed gratitude to the brotherly country of Djibouti for all its support.

For his part, Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the African Union and UNECA, emphasized that the school will not only provide educational opportunities for Ethiopians living in Djibouti, but will also provide an opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s history, culture, and traditions to the general public.

Abdi Shehida, Prefet of the Nagad Region of the Republic of Djibouti, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing assistance for the Ethiopian Community School.

The President of Dire Dawa University, Dr. Ubah Adam, presented the design of the building to Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye. The community school building was designed entirely by the university.

The completion of the community school on the 4-hectare land provided by the Government of Djibouti will not only allow Ethiopian parents living in Djibouti to teach their children in their country’s curriculum, language, and education system, but will also strengthen the relationship between the governments and peoples of the two countries.
