Ethiopia, Djibouti ink agreement to address common security concerns

Addis Ababa, March 11, 2021 (FBC) -Ethiopia and Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to effectively respond to common security concerns, bolster border security preparedness as well as engender qualified police personnel.

The MoU was signed today in Djibouti by Commissioner General of Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, Demelash Gebremichael and Director of Djiboutian National Police Force Colonel Abdillahi Abdi.

During the signing ceremony, Commissioner General Demelash expressed his confidence that the MoU will best serve the two brotherly countries to scale up joint endeavors in the field of security and policing.

“In the face of ongoing challenges, there is no better time than now to sign the MoU,” he added

Commending his Ethiopian counterpart for expediting the process in the shortest time possible, Colonel Abdillahi Abdi on his part stressed the urgent need to translate the MoU into action to best garner the massive opportunities in the arrays.

The two sides also agreed to hold consultations every six months between senior officials of the two respective sectors, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti.

It was also noted that  the two sides will collaborate in education and training of personnel in the field of police peacekeeping and forensic science.

An agreement was also reached to establish Joint Task Force in Diredawa and Djibouti, the embassy added.
