Ethiopia envisages launching 3 more satellites in ten years

Addis Ababa, December 20, 2020 (FBC) – Director General of the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute, Abdissa Yilma has today stated that Ethiopia is working to launch 3 more multipurpose satellites into space within ten years from now.

According to the Director General, the satellites to be launched in the years to come are intended to telecommunication and broadcast purposes while the two are remote sensing satellites.

The Instituted has today celebrated the first anniversary of the launching of Ethiopia’s first Satellite (ETRSS-1) in to space with China’s help.

During the occasion, the Director General said that Ethiopian experts have fully taken over the operation of the ETRSS-1 from Chinese professional.

ETRSS-1 has been sending adequate information which are being analyzed and sorted by Ethiopian experts.

Institutes has been undertaking a wide range of activities focused at human resource development, infrastructural expansion and knowledge and technology transfer in a bid to transom the sector to a better level, the Director added.
