Ethiopia, Kenya agree to maintain cooperation in ensuring regional peace

Addis Ababa, January 25, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopian and Kenyan intelligence agencies have agreed to continue strengthening information exchange and joint operations to ensure regional peace.

Kenya’s National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji has arrived in Addis Ababa today for an official visit.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, the Kenyan delegates were welcomed by the director general of the National Intelligence and Security Service of Ethiopia (NISS), Mr. Temesgen Tiruneh and other senior officials from NISS.

During a conversation with the Kenyan delegation, Mr. Temesgen articulated that the fraternal people of Ethiopia and Kenya have a long history of solidarity.

He disclosed that the intelligence institutions of the two countries have strong cooperation and have maintained this strong collaboration.

Mr. Temesgen said the institutions are determined to continue their cooperation in various fields through the exchange of intelligence information.

The counterpart institutions have agreed to cooperate more than ever to ensure regional peace and security by exchanging information and conducting joint operations in the areas of cross-border crimes, capacity building, illegal weapons and human trafficking, he pointed out.

In addition to exchanging information and leading joint operations, especially in the prevention of terrorism, the NISS head announced that activities to share experiences and exchange experiences by identifying current sources of threats will be strengthened at a higher level.

The Director General of Kenya’s National Intelligence Service, Noordin Haji, for his part, said that the two intelligence and security agencies are working together to prevent terrorism and cross-border crimes.

He said that the cooperation and alliance of the two countries has an important role to prevent security threats in the East African region.

Information exchange and joint operations will continue to be strengthened by taking Ethiopia’s effective experience in preventing terrorism as input, he said.

The Kenyan official also pointed out that the concerted efforts to quash security threats in the region have a significant role to protect common interests.
