Ethiopia, Oman assess employment opportunities for trained citizens in the Mideast nation

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Oman assessed employment opportunities for trained Ethiopians in the Middle East nation.

Officials from the Ministry of Labor and Skills of Ethiopia and Oman’s Labor Affairs held bilateral discussion today.

During the meeting, Minister of State for Labor and Skills, Nigusu Tilahun, said that the discussion aims to provide skilled and semi-skilled workforce to Oman by concluding a new agreement.

On the other hand, Oman’s labor affairs officials explained that their country wants workers from Ethiopia and vowed to protect their rights.

The officials stated that they have prepared a draft agreement document as it is necessary to renew the previous agreement for its implementation.

The Ethiopian Minister of State said that the draft document prepared to protect the rights of Ethiopian citizens going to work in Oman will be thoroughly reviewed by legal experts and will be implemented through the embassies.

It is stated that the Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS) is working to create employment opportunities to citizens by sending skilled and semi-skilled manpower to various countries.

The Ministry pointed out that apart from Oman, it is also making agreements with other countries on the issue.

Nigusu Tilahun confirmed that 77 technical and vocational colleges are ready to train the youth in the professions they can work in overseas, including the Arabic language.

He also explained that Ethiopia is working to provide not only domestic workers but also graduates in various professions to the global labor market.

Officials from Oman visited the Ministry’s recently developed state-of-the-art Database System for Overseas Employment at its office in Kazanchis area, in Addis Ababa.
