Ethiopia records 30 more COVID-19 cases in 24 hrs

Addis Ababa, May 22, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia has recorded 30 more cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 429.

The new cases were identified out of the 3, 645 laboratory tests conducted in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

The laboratory tests were collected from high-risk community members, returnees and passengers at mandatory quarantine centres, contact trace, health facility visitors and suspects at isolation centres.

Out of the 30 cases, 26 are male and four are female, the statement indicated. All the confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals, with the youngest being 15 years old and oldest 60 years.

According to the statement, 18 of the positive cases are from Addis Ababa, three from Afar, four from Oromia, three from Tigray and two cross border truck drivers.

Nine of the cases have travel history from abroad, 17 contact with confirmed cases, and the remaining four have neither travel history nor known contact traces.

Five people have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 128.

Ethiopia has so far conducted 73, 164 laboratory tests and recorded five deaths.
