Ethiopia records largest single-day spike in coronavirus cases

Ababa, June 5, 2020 (FBC) – Ethiopia has recorded 169 coronavirus cases of 5,798 samples diagnosed over the last twenty four hours, the highest single day spike since the first case confirmed in the country in March 13, 2020.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ethiopia has reportedly reached 1,805 including the new records in the last twenty four hours.

The Ministry of Health stated all the newly confirmed cases are Ethiopians their age range from 1 to 78 years, except the one who is an American Citizen.

Among the new cases 138 are identified from Addis Ababa while the remaining 4 from Tigray, 4 from SNNP, 11 from Oromia, 6 from Amhara, 1 from Harari and the other 5 from Somali regional States.

A body of a 35 years woman which was under autopsy has been identified positive for the virus taking the number of COVID 19 deaths in the country to 19.

Dr. Liya Tadesse, the health minister stated that the new record shows how the pandemic is drastically spreading among the community calling the public to adhere to precautions set to curtail the pandemic more than ever before.
