Ethiopia reports nine COVID-19 cases

Addis Ababa, May 21, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia has in the last 24 hours conducted 3,747 laboratory tests for COVID-19, out of which nine people have tested positive.

All the confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals, with the youngest being 20 years old and oldest 49 years, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.

Out of the nine cases, eight are male and one is female, the statement indicated.

According to today’s results, three positive cases are from Addis Ababa, two from Afar, one from Somali, one from Tigray and two from Amhara regional states.

The statement indicated that five of the cases have travel history from abroad, two contact with confirmed cases, and the remaining two have neither travel history nor known contact traces.

One patient has recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 123.
Ethiopia has so far conducted 69, 507 laboratory tests and recorded 398 confirmed cases, with five deaths.

The number of people infected worldwide has now reached five million, while deaths caused by the virus currently stands at 328,172.
