Ethiopia rolls out National Digital Payment Strategy

Addis Ababa, July 15, 2021 (FBC) – A Digital Paying Strategy launching event is under way in Addis Ababa in the presence of officials of National Bank of Ethiopia and representatives of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

In her remarks at the launching ceremony, Payments and Settlements System Directorate Director at the National Bank of Ethiopia, Martha Hailemariam highlighted the importance of the technology in facilitating enhanced and modern financial system at individual and public level transactions.

She said the system enables every individual in the community to make payments with speedy, dependable and more affordable manner. It increases satisfaction of customers of the finance service customer and enhanced competence of the sector, Martha explained.

Through digital payment system, both payers and payees use digital modes to send and receive money without any physical contact.
