Ethiopia, Russia eye enhanced cooperation in space science

Addis Ababa, April 12, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI) in partnership with the Russian Embassy has organized a preliminary event  ahead of commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the first human space flight in line with cementing cooperation in the sector.

Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Ethiopia, M. Korneev and Director of the ESSTI Dr. Abdissa Yilma addressed the guests with welcoming remarks.

The speakers noted the intensification of Russian-Ethiopian cooperation in the field of space research.

It is to be recalled that Ethiopia and Russia signed an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and ESSTI.

Negotiations are also continuing between the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ethiopian Entoto Observatory on the issue of creating on its basis the Center of reception of scientific information of the Russian space project WSO-UV.

During the event the participants laid flowers at the statue of Yuri Gagarin which erected at the Institute and opened the Kids’ Space Club.
