Ethiopia, Sudan agree to solve GERD, border issues peacefully

Addis Ababa, December 1, 2022 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen has met with the Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) of Sudan, Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo in Khartoum. The two discussed bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern.

The meeting comes within the context of participation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen in the IGAD Ministerial Council meeting held in Khartoum.

During the discussion, the two sides agreed to solve the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and border issues peacefully and according to join mechanism signed between the two countries.

Sudan has also expressed readiness to support the implementation of peace agreement signed between the Ethiopian government and Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
