Ethiopia, Tanzania agree to enhance defense cooperation

Addis Ababa, December 6, 2023 (FBC) – The Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian Defense Forces, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula arrived in Tanzania on Tuesday for an official visit.

Field Marshal Birhanu was accorded warm welcome by his Tanzanian counterpart, General Jacob John Mkunda upon his arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport.

The two senior military officials discussed ways of enhancing defense cooperation between Ethiopia and Tanzania. They also vowed to take the longstanding partnership established by Emperor Haileselassie and President Julius Nyerere to the next level.

Field Marshal Birhanu expressed gratitude for the government of Tanzania for supporting Ethiopia’s efforts to resolve its own problems.

The two sides further agreed to cement defense cooperation between Ethiopia and Tanzania in the areas of military capacity building and technology transfer, among others.
