Ethiopia to continue a leading role in ensuring cooperation between Nile basin countries: Minister
Addis Ababa, February 22, 2024 (FBC) – The Water and Energy Minister of Ethiopia, Habtamu Itefa is participating in the celebration of 25 years of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBIP which is taking place in Bujumbura, Burundi.
In his remarks during the celebration, Habtamu noted that the NBI has brought about remarkable achievements during its journey that lasted for over a quarter of a century.
It has been possible to carry out development activities in some parts of the Nile Basin countries, he said.
Habtamu explained that, among others, consultative meetings, capacity building activities, and awareness creation platforms have been carried out among member countries.
The Minister futher stressed the need to concerted efforts to ensure legal frameworks for the initiative.
The celebration of the 25th Anniversary has a paramount significance in consolidating efforts for a better success, Habtamu said, pleding Ethiopia’s commitment to continue playing a leading role in realizing enhanced cooperation among member countries of the initiative.
