Ethiopian Ambassador, Russian Federation Council Intl Affairs Committee Chairperson discuss various issues

Addis Ababa, January 22, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ambassador to Russia, Alemayehu Tegenu discussed with Chairperson of International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev on various issues.

During the meeting, Ambassador Alemayehu briefed the Russian official on the current situation in northern Ethiopia and mentioned that the situation in the Tigray region has significantly been improving over the last couple of weeks.

He emphasized that that peace and security has been maintained in the region, and damaged infrastructures are being restored, and major social and public services have been resumed and needed humanitarian assistance is being delivered in the region.

He underlined that the provisional administration of Tigray is also working in close coordination with the Federal government to ensure peace and stability, and step up rehabilitation works and bring quick recovery to normalcy in the region. He also added progress has been made in bringing criminals to justice.

Regarding the situation with Sudan, the ambassador said that Ethiopia has a firm conviction to resolve the issue amicably using diplomatic solution in line with ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.

Konstantin Kosachev, in his part, said that he well understands the situation in Ethiopia expressing interest of Russia to further strengthen the cooperation with Ethiopia in political, trade, economic spheres.

He also reiterated commitment of Russia to deepen relations with Ethiopia in cultural and humanitarian issues. Inter-parliamentary relations should be strengthened between the two nations, he added.

Konstantin Kosachev further underscored that peaceful dialogue is a key solution to address boarder issue with Sudan and maintain regional peace and stability at large. The two have also discussed bilateral and regional issues.
