Ethiopian athletes conquer Valencia Marathon 2023

Addis Ababa, December 3, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian athletes dominated the 2023 Valencia marathon in both men and women races this morning.

In the men’s category, athlete Sisay Lemma storms to 2:01:48 to become the 4th fastest man in marathon history. Fellow Ethiopian marathoner Dawit Wolde finished 3rd with the time of 2:03:48.

His compatriot Kenenisa Bekele breaks the marathon masters world record (M40) as he finishes 4th. The 41 year old Kenenisa clocked 2:04.19.

Meanwhile, Worknesh Degefa clocks a strong 2:15:51 to win the Maratón Valencia as Ethiopia sweeps the women’s elite race podium.

Her compatriots Almaz Ayana (2:16:22) and Howot Gebrekidan  (2:17:59) completed an Ethiopian clean sweep as they finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
