Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels, Consulate in Dubai and Northern Emirates celebrate Int’l Women’s Day

Addis Ababa, March 9, 2022 (FBC) – The Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels colorfully celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, 2022, under the national theme this year ,”I am the guardian of my sister”.

Ambassador Hirut Zemene recalled that President Sahelework Zewdie’s appreciation of women in the armed forces for their remarkable deeds to safeguard their motherland. The Ambassador also remarked the value of nurturing women in leadership through gender parity. She further pledged to follow the national theme of the year to take initiative to support women in need in various parts of the county.

A presentation was delivered through the initiative of young diplomats of the embassy represented by Aykelkel Berhanu noting both the themes of the year nationally and at an international level.

Discussion was made on the progress made to promote the status of women in the society , including in the diplomatic field, appreciating the challenges faced by girl children and women in general.

The diplomats of the Embassy took the occasion to contribute their part to support women currently in need in the country on their own initiatives.

Likewise, the Ethiopian Consulate in Dubai and the Northern Emirates has celebrated International Women’s Day under the banner: “I am my sister’s keeper.”

Ethiopians living in Dubai and members of the association of Ethiopian women in Dubai and the Northern Emirates attended the celebration ceremony that took place in the Ethiopian pavilion on the premises of the Dubai Expo 2020.

Representing the Consulate, Mr. Abebe Mebratu delivered a speech underscoring the need to celebrate the day with continued commitment to support and rehabilitate displaced women and children due to the conflict in the northern part of the country.

Chairperson of the Association of Ethiopian Women in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Mrs. Nardos Belay, on her part, highlighted the encouraging number of women who put their fingerprints on the economic and political life of the country further appreciating the decision making roles of women in higher-level government institutions.

She also spoke in detail about the range of activities that the women’s association is carrying out since its establishment recently.

Overseer of the Ethiopian pavilion in the Dubai Expo 2020, Haimanot Kassaye lauded the role of women in laying foundations for the good of the country and appreciated the Consulate for deciding to celebrate the day at the pavilion.
