Ethiopian football team hires Wubshet Desalegn as goalies’ coach

Addis Ababa, May 19, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Football Federation announced that Wubshet Desalegn has been appointed as the goalkeeping coach of the Ethiopian football team, alias the Walia Antelopes.

It is to be remembered that the Ethiopian Football Federation has designated instructor Daniel Gebremariam and the current head coach of Bahir Dar Kenema Football Club Degarege Yegzaw as the head coach and assistant coach of the Ethiopian national football team for the Walias’ upcoming fixtures, replacing the former head coach Wubetu Abate.

To date, the new national team goalies coach Wubshet Desalegn has been working as the goalkeeping coach at St. George Football Club.

The Ethiopian football team will face Malawi on June 20, 2023 in the AFCON 2023 qualifier group D match at the Mozambique Stadium.

After 4 matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, the Walias remain bottom of group D with only 3 points to their name, where Egypt and Guinea share the top 2 spots with 9 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Walias’ next opponents, Malawi, remain 3rd with 3 points and a better goal difference.

In their last match of AFCON 2023 qualifier, the Walia Antelopes will also face Mohammed Salah’s Egypt in the return leg of the Group D matches in Cairo, on 3 September 2023.
