Ethiopian Media Authority unveils hotline call center to tackle fake news, hate speech

Addis Ababa, July 6, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Media Authority has built and made operational a hotline call center in a bid to tackle fake news and hate speech.

The 9192 hotline number that has been announced by the Media Authority receives information and complaints from the public regarding any fake news and hate speech circulating in social media and any other media outlet.

According to the Authority, the center has been structured with 9 employees that are hired to serve the community in all working hours.

Individuals can inform the center about disinformation and hate speech they notice in radio, television, magazine and social media platforms including Facebook and others. They can also issue complaints to the center whey they encounter any media product against their dignity or human or political rights, according to the Authority.
