Ethiopian Transport Investment Summit opens

Addis Ababa, March 24, 2021 (FBC) -The first Ethiopian Transport Investment Summit opened in Addis Ababa this morning.

Senior government officials, including President Sahle-work Zewde, attended the opening of the two-day event.

In her opening remarks, the President said that the transport and logistics sectors would play a remarkable role to bring bout development in Ethiopia

Both sectors require the involvement of not only the government but also the private sector, she said, adding the 10-year development plan of Ministry of Transport will have key role to modernize the transport industry.

In her concluding remarks, the President called upon all stakeholders to do their part for the success of the development plan.

Minister of Transport, Dagmawit Moges, for her part said the government has been undertaking broad activities to expand road infrastructure and modernize the logistics sector.

Dagmawit added the national transport policies and strategies implemented over the past three years have brought about remarkable results.

The summit is the first of its kind to be organized in Ethiopia to promote investment opportunities in the transport sector and create a networking platform for foreign and local investors.

It will see discussion on 44 projects that would be developed under the public-private-partnership (PPP) program.

The projects that will be tabled at the event include road development, road transport, logistics, railways and aviation industry, which are parts of the country’s 10-year perspective development plan, she said.

The summit is expected to attract investment as well as facilitate trade of Ethiopian products with South-East Asian and Middle East counties, the Minister said.

It will also create an opportunity to bring new and alternative means of transport, promote knowledge transfer and support the sector with ICT infrastructure and services.
