Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay wins the 2023 AJC Peachtree Road Race 10km

Addis Ababa, July 4, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay Haiylu emerged as victorious in the 2023 AJC Peachtree Road Race 10km in the women’s race earlier today, held in Atlanta, U.S.A.

Fotyen completed the course in 30 minutes and 44 seconds.

In the women’s race, Senbere Teferi appeared to be on track to defend the title she won at the 2022 AJC Peachtree Road Race, but she took a wrong turn in the final moments, allowing Fotyen to seize on the instant and overtake the defending champion.

Despite crossing the finish line first, Fotyen expressed sadness for her Ethiopian compatriot’s misfortune. “I was really upset by her mistake because she was leading the race. I was really upset,” Fotyen said after the race.

Jesca Chelangat from Kenya secured second place with a time of 30:46, while Senbere Teferi managed to recover and take third place with a time of 30:47.

It is noted that Kenya’s Charles Langat has won the men’s race.

The Peachtree Road Race is an American 10-kilometer run held annually in Atlanta. After being held on Independence Day from 1970 to 2019, the race was cancelled because of the COVID pandemic after originally being set for Thanksgiving.
