Ethiopia’s peace talks conclude in agreement to a permanent disarmament, demobilization & reintegration of TPLF combatants

Addis Ababa, November 2, 2022 (FBC) – The AU-led peace talk which was being held to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in the northern part of the country concluded with an agreement to disarm TPLF combatants and end the two-year conflict.

The peace talk was being held for the past 10 days in South Africa under the auspices of the African Union.

Former Nigerian president, Olusengun Obasanjo, has been appointed by the African Union Commission Chairperson, Mousa Faki Mahamat, as the High Representative for the Horn of Africa.

Since then, he and the AU have been working hard to bring lasting peace in northern Ethiopia.

To that end, after 10 days of talks, both sides have agreed to end the bloodshed that persisted for the last two years.

After signing the agreement, both sides have released a joint statement on their accord which contains 12 articles to be implemented by both sides.

In a nutshell, delegates of both sides signed the peace accord to a permanent disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of TPLF combatants.

The agreement is also said to bein pursuant to the constitutional system and the national interests of Ethiopia.

The agreement document was signed by Redwan Hussein, on behalf of the central government of Ethiopia, and Getachew Reda, on behalf of TPLF.
