EU, GIZ provide ICT supplies to strengthen Health system in IGAD region

Addis Ababa, August 10, 2023 (FBC) – The European Union together with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) handed over to the Ministy of Health of Ethiopia with a view to strengthen health systems in Ethiopia and the IGAD region at large.

The donation is aimed to support digital disease surveillance and secure a healthier future for all Ethiopians and peoples of the IGAD members states, it is stated during the handover ceremony.

GIZ representative to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Ruth Bigalke, on the occasion said, affirmed agency’s commitment to ensure ICT backed health system in the region.

GIZ supports disease surveillance in the IGAD region by strengthening health data sharing at cross-border areas and at national levels in member states, she said.

Enhancing regional integration and development through digital health technologies is among GIZ’s areas of priority, she added.

Ethiopian Health Minister, Dr. Lia Tadesse, for her part, appreciated the supply as a key contribution to advance Ethiopia’s digital transformation, saying that the nation is working hand in hand with countries of the region to control cross border diseases.
