EU reiterates backing to Ethiopia’s efforts to ensure peace, security

Addis Ababa, November 15, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen held a discussion with the EU Managing Director for Africa, Ambassador Rita Laranjinha, in his office today.

In the discussion that focused on strengthening relations between the EU and Ethiopia, Mr. Demeke expressed Ethiopia’s readiness to normalize partnership and cooperation with the EU.

He further explained the importance of a sectorial dialogue between the two sides, and Ethiopia is preparing well for the next meeting on December 7, 2023.

Mr. Demeke also briefed the ambassador about the government’s efforts to ensure that peace reigns in the Tigray, Amhara, and Oromia regions, further explaining the matters regarding the all-inclusive National Dialogue, and the Transitional Justice mechanism.

Ambassador Rita Laranjinha lauded the revamped relations between the EU and Ethiopia and appreciated the Ethiopian Government’s efforts to ensure peace and security in the country.
