FM Taye lays foundation stone for Ethiopian embassy in Kigali

Addis Ababa, April 7, 2024 (FBC) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie, ceremoniously laid the cornerstone for the construction of the Ethiopian Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

The Rwandan government has granted approximately 7,771 square meters of land for the construction of the embassy building, a decision made subsequent to the official working visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Kigali on Saturday (April 6).

After laying the foundation stone, Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie expressed that the land allocated to the Ethiopian Embassy in Kigali will significantly enhance the productivity of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

He confirmed that Ethiopia has reciprocated by granting a similar parcel of land for the construction of the Rwandan embassy in Addis Ababa.

Moreover, it was revealed that a total of 23 agreements and memorandums of understanding have been signed between Ethiopia and Rwanda since 2012. Minister Taye emphasized the pivotal role of the new embassy building in realizing the objectives outlined in these agreements and MoUs.

The Ethiopian Foreign Minister also highlighted that both countries are actively enhancing their presence in international cooperation forums, alongside their efforts in bolstering bilateral cooperation.

MFA Ethiopia recalled that during Rwanda’s struggle for independence from colonial rule and in the aftermath of the tragic events of 1994, Ethiopia provided significant support to the Rwandan people by promptly extending assistance.
