France, Ethiopia, sign agreement on fifth round survey, restoration of Lalibela Churches

Addis Ababa, May 29, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopia and France have signed an agreement on implementation of findings of the fifth round survey of restoration of the Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches.

The signing ceremony was held in the headquarters of Ethiopian National Archives and Library Agency in attendance of senior officers of Culture and Tourism Ministry and members of the diplomatic community of the Embassy of France in Addis Ababa.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, experts of the Ministry, representatives of the French Embassy and members of the string committee of the renovation of the Lalibela Rock Hewn Churches discussed on issues related to the ongoing restoration works.

Ambassador of France to Ethiopia, Remi Marechaux, on the signing occasion, said the signing marks the decisive chapter to develop proposal for the beginning of implementation of the findings for practical renovation works.

The Culture and Tourism Minister, Dr. Hirut Kassaw, Ambassador of France to Ethiopia, Remi Marechaux, Director General of the National Archives and Library and Chief Administrator of Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches Fr. Aba Tsigieselassie Mezgebu have signed the agreement representing their institutions.
