GERD provides greater share of energy supply to East African countries – South Sudan

Addis Ababa, August 17, 2022 (FBC) – Upon its completion, the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will have a greater share in energy supply to East African countries, according to James Morgan, Ambassador of South Sudan to Ethiopia.

The ambassador stated that GERD is a grand development project with continental magnitude that is being built to ensure mutual benefit and cement regional cooperation beyond the supply of electricity.

He added that the third round of filling the dam and making the second turbine able to generate electricity proves that Ethiopia is on its way to success.

Ambassador James also mentioned that the power plant is one of the infrastructures that helps accelerate the economic development of the region.

The Ambassador claimed that the electricity supply is a project that realizes mutual benefit, which will be of great importance to Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti, Somalia, Eritrea and other countries beyond Ethiopia.

South Sudan President’s National Security Adviser, Kong Tiptip Gatlak, stated during his recent visit to Renaissance Dam, that the construction of the dam will not cause any harm to the countries along the Nile river basin.
