Germany reaffirms support to AU-led negotiation on GERD

Addis Ababa, June 6, 2022 (FBC) – Abraha Adugna (PhD), State Minister at the Ministry of Water and Energy meets Hinrich Tholkin (PhD) Special Advisor for International Climate and Energy Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Abraha explained to him about the ongoing activities in Ethiopia in the areas of water supply and sanitation, integrated water resource management, and renewable energy.

Regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, he said Ethiopia follows the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization of natural resources without causing significant harm to the lower riparian countries.

He also briefed Ethiopia awaiting the call of Senegal, the current chair of the African Union, to continue the negotiations under the auspices of the African Union.

Ambassador Tholken, for his part, said Germany is committed to supporting AU led negotiations and it desires the three countries to reach a win-win agreement.
