Heads of Regional States cheer up Ethiopians on first phase filling of GERD

Addis Ababa, July 23, 2020 (FBC) – President of Regional States have cheered up Ethiopians on successful completion of the first phase filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The heads have extended their congratulatory messages to all Ethiopians over the filling of the dam calling the move a game changer in the modern history of the country.

Shimelis Abdissa, President of Oromia Regional State, said the dam filling as well as the current development of the project has been realized through an active role of all Ethiopians irrespective of age and social status among the community.

He said all citizens ranging from children to elderly members of the community have placed their finger prints in the dam construction adding the project has reached its decisive step to electrify the nation.

Temesgen Tiruneh, President of Amhara Regional State, to his part, said the River Abay has stopped roaming and become submissive to the generation as its waters have been tapped in a view to accelerate growth and prosperity of the country.

The filling of the dam has paved a way for Ethiopia to unleash its other natural recourses for national socio economic development purposes.

President of Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia Regional State, Ristu Yirdaw told FBC the existing success of the dam construction process and its filling is a result of unreserved contribution of Ethiopians in finance, labor and knowledge.

He pledged continued support for the dam construction on behalf of the people of the region till the project is completed and goes fully operational.

Filling of GERD is a historic phenomenon that foiled nightmares of perpetrators who was trying to distract Ethiopia from utilizing its natural resources, Ristu underlined.

Mustefe Oumer, President of Somli Regional State, said current progress GERD has brought Ethiopia in to historical chapter of development that manifests brighter finger prints of the generation. He said nation’s triumph on the projects has exposed atrocities of various forces that were disseminating false propaganda over the issues.

It is Ashadli Hassen, Benshangul Gumuz Regional State President who said GERD successfulness is a momentous victory that has been resulted from quick corrective measures taken by the Ethiopian government.

Expressing his congratulatory remark to all over GERD filling progress, Ashadli called up on all Ethiopians to join hand for successful completion of the project.
