His grace Abune Ermias calls on int’l community to support Lalibela world heritage site

Addis Ababa, April 12, 2022 (FBC) – Member of the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church and archbishop of north and south Wollo and Kemise dioceses, His Grace Abune Erimias called on the international community to support the World’s heritage site Lalibela.

Abune Ermias said that the community of the heritage site has been highly affected by the Coronavirus pandemic and the conflict in the north, adding that there is not any tourism or any related economic activity in the site.

He said the invaluable treasures in the heritage are endangered due to lack of proper preservation and restoration works, calling partners to hold up the heritage site financially and technically.

Abune Ermias further called on the government, partners and stakeholders to join hands in stimulating economic activities and supporting restoration works in the area.
