HPR approves proclamation of cooperation agreement with various countries on criminal matters

Addis Ababa, May 16, 2023 (FBC) – The FDRE House of People’s Representatives approved today cooperation agreement that allows Ethiopia to work together with the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Türkiye on criminal matters.

The House of People’s Representatives approved the proclamation during its 19th regular session.

The members of the Parliament deliberated on the draft proclamation regarding the Agreement signed between Ethiopia & Türkiye and Ethiopia & UAE on Common Law Cooperation in Criminal Matters as well as the extradition agreement.

Furthermore, members of the parliament believe that the proposed cooperation agreement bills will help strengthen Ethiopia’s diplomatic relations with various countries, defend its sovereignty, and expedite the government’s activities.

Thus, with only three objections and one abstention, all four proposed proclamations were approved by majority vote as Proclamation No. 1290/2015, Proclamation No. 1291/2015, Proclamation No. 1292/2015, and Proclamation No. 1293/2015.
