ICRC donates 23 vehicles, medical supplies worth 54mln birr to ERCS

Addis Ababa, May 19, 2023 (FBC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated vehicles including ambulances and medical supplies worth over 54 million birr to the Ethiopia Red Cross Society (ERCS).

The medical supplies donated by ICRC are intended to strengthen pre-hospital health care services.

Secretary General of ERCS, Getachew Ta’a, noted that the donation will play a significant role in enhancing quality of health care services apart from increasing number of ambulances needed for humanitarian activities.

The donation is aimed at strengthening the technical capacities and working conditions of the Belgrade Delegation to the WG in their search for potential gravesites and other field work.

Saying that ERCS is providing humanitarian assistance to around half a million people, Getachew added that such a support by ICRC means a lot to beef up society’s capability towards reaching out to more communities in need. ERCS is celebrating its 88 years anniversary.
