Input suppliers, Mfg industries market linkage pivotal for economic structural transition: MoTRI

Addis Ababa, November 11, 2022 (FBC) – Creating market linkage between input suppliers and manufacturing industries is pivotal for the economic structural transition, according to the Ministry of Industry-Ethiopia.

The Ministry of Industry has hosted a discussion advising on the quality, quantity and price of agricultural products needed for the manufacturing industry

The discussion was held to identify the lack of supply of resources and quality gaps so that the manufacturing industry sector can achieve its expectations and make the stakeholders do their part. It is also aimed to create a coordinated system.

Although the qualities of input supply and market linkages play an important role in the structural transition of the economy, there are limitations in providing the agricultural products needed for the manufacturing industry at the required quality and price.

Minister of State for Industry, Hassen Mohammed, said that the economic benefit from the sector is still unsatisfactory.

He also recalled that encouraging economic growth was registered in the past four years through the implementation of the home-grown economic reforms.

The Minister of State said that numerous promising projects are being carried out by launching a national Ethiopian manufacturing movement.

It is aimed to increase the production and productivity of the sector by addressing the lack of supply of resources and quality problems faced by the manufacturing industries, he added.

Hence, during the discussion, it was emphasized that it is critical to create market linkages between input suppliers and manufacturing industries for the economic structural transition, as per the Ministry.
