Japan provides $6.6m in new emergency grant to Tigray

Addis Ababa, February 17, 2021 (FBC) –The Government of Japan will provide a new emergency grant aid worth $6.6 million for people affected by the law enforcement operation in the Tigray regional state, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees.

The grant aid will be provided through World Food Programme (WFP), International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The grant would help to provide nutritious food to children and pregnant and lactating women; procure medical supplies, support IDPs, and repair water supply system.

Japan will continue working closely with the international community towards the improvement of the situation in the Tigray region, said a statement the embassy of Japan sent to FBC today.
