Law enforcement bodies assess enactment of state of emergency degree

Addis Ababa, June 3, 2020 (FBC) – Federal and Regional government bodies led by the Attorney General have reviewed the enactment of the state of emergency decree declared in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Attorney General, Adanech Abebe said federal and regional law enforcement institutions have reviewed the overall situation related to implementation of the state of emergency decree over the last months.

She said the law enforcement has witnessed promising improvements although there are gaps need to be bridged through collective efforts.

Saying that the purpose of the proclamation of the state of emergency is to save the public from the pandemic not to punish people against it, the attorney general added the decree has contributed its share in line with preventing the spread of the virus among the community.

According to the assessment held by the law enforcement bodies, bottlenecks like carelessness, negligence and forgetfulness have been observed among the community hindering monitoring and control activities underway to combat the pandemic.

Federal and regional law enforcement bodies also agreed to further enforce the decree so as to make the community vigilant against the precautions set to control the spread of the virus, according to the Attorney General.
