Malting plant Boortmalt Ethiopia starts production

Addis Ababa, December, 2020 (FBC) –A malting plant built with 2.8 billion birr in Debre Birhan, about 100 km from Addis Ababa, has started production today.

Built by French investors, Boortmalt plant has a production capacity of 60,000 tons of malt per annum.

The plant will produce malt that is enough to meet demand of 14 Ethiopian breweries.

Boortmalt plant will source raw malt barley from 40,000 smallholder farmers, it was noted.

Boortmalt is the second plant to start production inside the Debre Birhan Industrial Park.
